2nd Sunday @ 5 is Fort Collins Eyeopeners’ monthly meeting option that focuses on fun, fellowship, and service.

Birthday Treat Bags for Putnam Kindergarten Students

During our May 19th Eyeopeners 2nd Sunday @ 5:00 meeting, we enjoyed food, fellowship, and the fun of assembling 50 birthday treat bags to be given to students by Putnam Elementary School kindergarten teachers for the 2024-25 school year. We are delighted to begin an on-going partnership with Putnam kindergarten teachers. 

Clothing Drive For House of Neighborly Service Thrift Store

The April clothing drive for Eyeopeners’ 2nd Sunday @ 5 meeting was a huge success. We donated a mountain of gently used clothing to the House of Neighborly Service Thrift Store in Loveland. https://www.honservice.org/thrift-store/

Easter Eggs and Slime for Kids At Heart

Kiwanis members and guests stuffed almost 400 Easter eggs with a random acts of kindness poem and candy and solved the problem of the ideal slime recipe to share with Kids at Heart. Krista will deliver the filled Easter eggs and slime making supplies to Kids at Heart later this week.

Partnering with Family Housing Network’s Faith Family Hospitality Program

On January 14, 2024, Kiwanis members were blessed with the opportunity to provide dinner and dine with families experiencing homelessness. The families are being served through the Family Housing Network’s Faith Family Hospitality Program.

Holiday Gifts Delivered to Harris Bilingual

Eyeopeners Kiwanis members made holiday gifts for Harris Bilingual Kindergarten and 1st grade students – a specially wrapped chocolate candy bar topped off with a warm pair of gloves.

October 8, 2023

Eyeopeners Kiwanis members presented Salvation Army Captain Gene Apuan, and his wife Martha, with Amazon gift cards that will be given to teens through the Salvation Army Christmas program.

For the October service project, members collected items and wrapped chocolates for the Children’s Christmas Store at LaPorte Presbyterian Church.

August 13, 2023

Eyeopeners Kiwanis members assembled 400 registration packets for Colorado Mission of Mercy (COMOM), an organization that provides free oral health care services. The 2023 COMOM clinic will be held in Greeley at the Island Grove Regional Park on September 22 and 23. Volunteers are still needed to help with the clinic. Click here to register.

Welcome Arlene Archer as an official Eyeopeners Kiwanis member. Arlene’s induction was performed by Larry Howell and Arlene was sponsored by Krista Taylor.

Eyeopeners members and guests packaged 60 menstrual kits for our April service project. The kits were donated to the Grace Upon Grace Project, whose mission is to provide under-served families and infants diapers, wipes, and period products to live and grow with grace and dignity while addressing the roots of social inequities.

Our March 2nd Sunday meeting was a blast. Eight Eyeopeners members and four friends/spouses enjoyed delicious food and delightful fellowship. We were able to assemble and alphabetize the name tags for the Eyeopeners’ 50th Birthday Celebration. Plus, Arlene Archer decided to join our club!

Fourth grade students from Highlands Elementary School in Pierce will enjoy treat bags assembled by Eyeopeners members when they complete their 5K run/walk at Windsor Park later this month.

The July 2nd Sunday at 5:00 pm meeting on July 10 at Sue’s home was a blast. We had a delightful time welcoming our newest member, Beth Gillespi and brainstorming carnival game ideas to support the Salvation Army’s Back to School Carnival and Backpack Distribution event.

Bags upon bags upon bags of gently used clothing were sorted at our “2nd Sunday at 5” meeting. Because of the generosity of Eyeopeners members, family, and friends, we were able to donate four car loads of clothing to Habitat for Humanity ReStore in Loveland, House of Neighborly Service, Homeward Alliance, and Arc Thrift Store.

Members of Eyeopeners Kiwanis enjoyed an evening of fun, fellowship, and service as we completed 27 Alphabet Flip Books for the Children’s Speech and Reading Center (https://www.csrckids.org/). We will continue working on the flip books at our February 2nd Sunday meeting.

December 12, 2021

The holiday spirit was in full swing as Eyeopeners members enjoyed an evening of fun, fellowship, and service at our December “2nd Sunday @ 5” meeting. We completed two hands-on service projects – we assembled 10 first aid/survival kits to be distributed by Loveland’s Community Kitchen to people experiencing homelessness and we made 95 Christmas gifts for the fourth graders of Highland Elementary School in Pierce.

November 14, 2021

Eyeopeners members assembled 10 “You Are Loved” bags for the Family Housing Network at their November 14 meeting.  The bags, which included a fleece blanket, books, a stuff animal, coloring books, crayons, and a personal card will be given to children ages preschool through high school who are experiencing homelessness.

Family Housing Network’s mission is to support families experiencing homelessness to achieve sustainable self-sufficiency in a timely and dignified manner.

Annette Zacharias from the Family Housing Network will join Eyeopeners at our November 18th meeting and share more about her organization.

Also during 2nd Sunday, Key Club Division 16 lieutenant governor, Skyler Mayse held a leadership summit with presidents and vice-presidents from the following high schools: Liberty Commons, Fort Collins, Rocky Mountain, and Colorado Early Colleges.
