Thank you to all of the volunteers who helped make the Genesis Project Community Garden Volunteer Event April 7th and 8th such a huge success. A special thanks goes out to Chris Tholl, Kristina Rundee, Tom Drungil, Bioscience Career Academy, Eye Openers Kiwanis, Stephanie Kopplin with Nature in the City, Park Lane residents, and Genesis Project volunteers.
The Genesis Project Community Garden and Playground project has taught us to dare to dream big. The site is located at 400 S. Link Lane next to the Park Lane Mobile Home Park behind the Genesis Project building. An idea that started with a handful of students in integrated services through their participation in the Fort Collins High School Give Next program has rallied the community together to create something truly beautiful. We ended up with many key contributors who have donated in varying amounts to make this project come to light.
So why are we doing all this? The key objectives were to promote physical and mental wellness through shared work, exercise, nutrition, education, and supportive relationships. We foresee future opportunities to provide training classes to our gardening community at The Genesis Project site in the areas of gardening, composting, nutrition, menu planning and recipes utilizing fresh produce, and horticulture therapy to name a few. Once this garden is established, it will become a long-term program that Fort Collins High School will be a driving force and contributor to for many years to come. We are creating a lasting partnership with this community.
